Internal issues prolong wait for Cong candidates list

Sunday, 23 January 2022 | PNS | Dehradun

The Uttarakhand Congress party has lagged behind other parties in campaigning as it could not declare its much anticipated list of candidates for the ensuing assembly elections by Saturday night till the time of this report being filed. The nomination process for the polls has already started but the Congress contenders are still awaiting the official party list.

The internal squabbling and toughening of stance by the camps led by the former chief minister Harish Rawat and Leader of Opposition (LoP) over the choice of candidates in about 15 constituencies is said to be the reason for delay in the release of the list. It is learnt that the Congress high command has now included general secretary (Organisation) KC Venugopal and senior leader Mukul Wasnik in the selection procedure. The Congress sources claim that the party could release the list of 55 candidates late on Saturday night. However Congress came at the receiving end of the jokes over its list over the various social media platforms. One user said that the list has got wet in the rains and the Congress leaders are drying the list while another said that the list which is on the way from Delhi has got stuck in a traffic jam.

It is worth mentioning here that the BJP has already taken a lead over the Congress by announcing candidates for 59 seats on Thursday.
