Inter-state burglary gang from J&K busted in Dehradun

Dehradun police have busted an inter-state burglary gang from Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday. Two accused, including a gangster from Pauri district, were held in connection with a burglary case in Kotwali nagar area. The accused have been identified as Javed Ahmad alias Merajuddin and Farid. Police recovered stolen jewellery and idols worth around Rs 18 lakh from their possession.
Police said that the break-in had been reported on January 6 by a resident of Chandernagar, Dehradun, who said that some unknown persons had barged in and stolen jewellery worth several lakhs from his house. On the receipt of the complaint, a special police team had been formed on the instructions of the senior superintendent of police, Dehradun.
The police team had inspected the crime scene and checked CCTV footage from nearby areas. Local informers had also been activated to gather information. On the night of January 7, based on a tip-off, police arrested the accused duo from near the railway tracks close to Madrasi Colony.
During questioning, the accused are said to have revealed that hailing from Jammu and Kashmir, they work as carpenters. On the pretext of work, they would travel to different states and identify locked houses. They would then break into these houses and commit thefts. Police said that the accused had earlier carried out several thefts in different districts of Uttarakhand and even in other States.
Police also said that one of the arrested accused is a listed gangster from Pauri district and that both accused have criminal cases registered against them in different States.
