India to host Miss World Beauty Contest after 27 years

India is going to host the 71st edition of the Miss World 2023 competition after nearly three decades (27 years) in November this year. The official announcement of India playing the host of the pageant was made by chairperson and CEO of Miss World Organisation Julia Morley at a press conference. Notably, India last hosted this international pageant in 1996.

While announcing this, Morley lauded India and its rich, pluralistic culture. “I am delighted to announce India as the new home of the 71st Miss World Final,” she said, adding that India is unique for its diverse culture, breath- taking natural bounty and hospitality.

Though it has been decided that national champions from 130 countries are going to participate in the 71st Miss World 2023 competition the dates are yet to be fixed. It is learnt that the contestants would stay in and travel through India for one month, showcasing their distinctive qualities.  

In course of this month-long event which will involve several rounds, the contestants would not just showcase their unique talents but their ability to overcome challenges and their inherent compassion.

Importantly, India has so far won the prestigious title as many as six times: Reita Faria (1966), Aishwarya Rai (1994), Diana Hayden (1997), Yukta Mookhey (1999), Priyanka Chopra (2000) and Manushi Chillar (2017).
