With the Lok Sabha election slated on April 19 drawing near, the Uttarkashi administration is going full throttle to ensure free, fair and peaceful election. As part of the initiatives being taken with this objective in view, the Static Surveillance Teams (SST)-stationed on the borders of the district- have hiked surveillance to stop smuggling of liquor, narcotics and cash on the instruction of the district magistrate Meharban Singh Bisht.  Just two days after the election date was announced, SST seized 25 boxes of liquor being carried illegally on a car on Ayanarkhal-Budhakedar road whose market value is estimated at over Rs two lakh.

District police informed that 20 SST teams have been deployed at the border check posts of the district while 18 flying squads deployed across the district are monitoring things.

Meanwhile, the surveillance squad, deployed at Chinyalisaur airstrip, carried out thorough checking of various flights and passengers’ luggage.
