The State government has suspended IAS officer Ram Vilas Yadav who is being investigated by the Vigilance department for allegedly amassing assets disproportionate to his income. The officer who was posted as an additional secretary slated for retirement on June 30 is accused of amassing assets reportedly 500 times his known source of income. The order states that the governor has granted his approval for suspending Yadav with immediate effect and initiating disciplinary action against him.He has been attached to the office of the office of the secretary, Personnel and Vigilance Department for the duration of his suspension.

It will be recalled that earlier, the Vigilance officials had been unable to trace Yadav who had also approached the Uttarakhand high court seeking protection from arrest in the case. The court had directed him to first appear before Vigilance officials. He reached the Vigilance office in Dehradun on Wednesday where he was questioned by the officials.  The HC is slated to hear his application again on Thursday.
