Human trafficker caught, 21 Uttarakhandis rescued from Myanmar

An agent involved in human trafficking was arrested by the State police for cybercrime. So far, the authorities have also rescued 21 Uttarakhandis from Myanmar. The accused arrested by the police along with his accomplice were recruiting youths from Udham Singh Nagar district under the pretense of employment in Bangkok and illegally transporting them through forests and rivers to Myanmar. The inspector general of police (Crime, Law & Order) Nilesh Anand Bharne said that the Central government in coordination with various State agencies, rescued and repatriated young men trafficked for cybercrime from Myanmar. Among them, 21 individuals were residents of Uttarakhand. These individuals were brought back to Uttarakhand and handed over to their families by the Cyber Crime Police of Uttarakhand STF team. Bharne said that the victims told authorities they were promised jobs and taken from Delhi to Bangkok, Thailand, on a visa. From Bangkok, they were transported to KK Park, Myawaddy, Myanmar, where they were held captive and forced to engage in cybercrime activities. The IG said that the investigations revealed that two agents were recruiting youths from Udham Singh Nagar by making false promises of providing them job opportunities. Police registered a case on Thursday at Jaspur Police Station and arrested one agent. Interrogation and further legal proceedings are ongoing. The respective authorities are investigating foreign contacts of the identified agents in Myanmar.
