Huge landslide on Dharchula-Adi Kailash road thwarts pilgrimage

Tuesday, 16 May 2023 | PNS | DEHRADUN

The traffic movement on the Dharchula-Adi Kailash road in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand bordering China was completely stalled following a massive landslide, resulting in India’s contacts with the China border being cut off.  It is learnt that on the Dharchula-Tawaghat-Lipulekh National Highway, a hill suddenly cracked in Garbadhar. As huge chunk of debris and boulders hurtled down the road, people got panicky.

Notably, for the last four days, the Border Road Organisation remained busy with clearing the road at Garbadhar blocked due to incessant landslides. But a few hours after the road’s restoration, the huge landslide occurred.

As the road was cleared, the possibility of restarting the movement of third and fourth groups of the Adi Kailash pilgrims arose. But the fresh landslides thwarted the plan and the pilgrims’ groups remain stuck on the road.
