Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the government has implemented historic and stern laws in the interests of the State. He said this during an interaction with non-resident Uttarakhandi advocates at Uttarakhand Niwas in New Delhi on Sunday. The interaction was held to mark the State foundation’s silver jubilee year.

Dhami said that Uttarakhand is the first State to implement the Uniform Civil Code. A strict anti-copying law was implemented to make the recruitment process transparent and to clamp down on the malpractice mafia. As a result of this, more than 26,500 youths have been appointed to government jobs while more than 100 persons involved in malpractices during the recruitment exams have been arrested so far.

The CM said that the State government has also implemented anti-conversion and anti-riot laws to protect cultural values and the demography.  Action was taken under Operation Kalnemi against illegal activities and land Jihad with more than 10,000 acre government land being freed along with the removal of 300 illegal Madarsas and 1,000 unauthorised structures. The Madarsa board has been annulled under the new law and the Madarsas which do not follow the government syllabus will be shut down, he said. Dhami also mentioned the Silkyara tunnel rescue operation, citing it as an example of administrative coordination, technical skills and human sensitivity. Speaking about the industrial and economic development of the State, he said that the meetings of G20 summit were organised successfully in Uttarakhand and memoranda of understanding work Rs 3.56 lakh were signed during the global investors summit, out of which MoUs worth more than Rs one lakh have been grounded.

Speaking about the tourism sector, he said that there were major achievements by the State in this field. Despite disasters, more than 51 lakh people undertook the Char Dham Yatra this year. He said that the government has also started the Winter Yatra to enable tourists to visit pilgrimage centres while also enjoying tourist destinations. Dhami further said that rail projects, ropeway development and the construction of heliports are developing a modern transportation network in the State. He also spoke about working on the policy of ‘ecology, economy and technology’ with a combination of environmental and technical balance. He averred that Uttarakhand had completed its developmental journey of 25 years with success, while adding that this is the time to decide the direction of the State in the next 25 years.
