The cardiac surgery department of Himalayan Hospital, Jollygrant claimed to have successfully performed a high-risk heart surgery on a patient. The patient is now fully healthy and has returned home, the hospital authorities claimed.
Providing details, a cardiac surgeon at Himalayan Hospital, Dr Akshay Chauhan explained that Rakesh Panwar, a resident of Gram Nawagarh Gyansu, Tehri had come to the hospital with a severe heart condition. “Upon examination, it was found that he was suffering from Sinus of Valsalva Aneurysm-a bulging of the large artery in the heart- and that both of his heart valves were damaged. To add to the complications, his kidney was functioning erratically. I advised a high-risk surgery, explaining that there was a risk of the aneurysm rupturing, which could be life-threatening. The surgery took six hours with both of the patient’s valves being replaced and the aneurysm treated using a technique I learned at the Mayo Clinic in America. The surgery was successful,” he said.
The patient was kept in the ICU until his condition stabilised and dialysis was performed every other day.
Panwar said that his treatment had been done free of charge under the Ayushman Bharat scheme.
