Higher reaches witness snowfall, light rain likely in parts today

Snowfall was experienced in the higher Himalayan region in Chamoli district on the weekend. The Lokpal-Hemkund area also experienced light snowfall on Saturday due to which the place was covered in about two inches of snow when the weather cleared on Sunday. The weather here during the daytime is cool but pleasant while it drops considerably during the night and early morning. The surrounding peaks have been covered in a fresh blanket of snow. The snow covered environs are enhancing the experience of the visitors and pilgrims. So far about 2.18 lakh people have visited the Hemkund Sahib Gurudwara which is slated to be closed to the public for the winter on October 10.

Meanwhile, the State meteorological centre has forecast the possibility of very light to light rain / thunderstorm likely to occur at isolated places in the mountains of Kumaon region and adjoining districts of Garhwal region on Monday. Dry weather is likely to prevail in the remaining districts of the State today. The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness mainly clear to partly cloudy sky with the maximum and minimum temperatures likely to be about 32 degrees Celsius and 21 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun on Monday. The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various places on Sunday were 32.1 degrees Celsius and 21.1 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 33.1 degrees Celsius and 22.4 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 20.4 degrees Celsius and 11.3 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 25.2 degrees Celsius and 13.4 degrees Celsius respectively in New Tehri.
