High power committee to resolve issues of dam displaced

A high power committee under the Garhwal commissioner will be formed to resolve the problems of those displaced by the construction of the Tehri dam. This decision was taken in a meeting presided over by the State’s Irrigation and Tourism minister Satpal Maharaj here on Friday.

The minister informed that the high power committee will also include the local MLAs. He said that issues including those related to the rehabilitation of those displaced by the Tehri dam were discussed in detail in the meeting. It was decided in the meeting that the committee will have to submit its report in two months. Further action will be decided on the basis of the report. All the issues raised by the MLAs concerned were also discussed in the meeting and agreement was reached on some of the issues. He said that the issues will be discussed with the Union Power minister to pave the way for resolution.

Tehri MP Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah said that in the meeting on rehabilitation, the opinions expressed by all were considered. She appreciated the effort undertaken by Maharaj to resolve the issues being faced by the dam displaced and hoped that the issues will be resolved soon.

Various issues including fencing around the Tehri dam reservoir for safety, installation of solar lights in villages adjoining the reservoir, facilitation of land for parking, guest house, degree college, dumping ground and other public properties in New Tehri were also discussed in the meeting.
