U’khand PCC chief asks Rawat, Pritam to hold fire

Uncomfortable with the washing of dirty linen in public by the two of the top leaders of Uttarakhand Congress-the former chief minister Harish Rawat and Pritam Singh, the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara has requested both leaders not engage with each other in public. In response to a question at Congress Bhawan here on Monday, the PCC president said that the party cadre which is trying to shrug off the defeat of the party in assembly elections is getting demoralised by the war of words between the two stalwarts. He however added that the Congress is a purely democratic party where everyone has the right to express his or her views. The PCC president said that since both Rawat and Pritam Singh are very senior, he can only request both of them that they should raise the issue in the party forum.

It is pertinent to mention here that Harish Rawat and Pritam Singh are targeting each other for the defeat of the party in the recent assembly elections. In these elections Harish Rawat was the head of the campaign committee and he wanted the party to declare him as the face of the party. Pritam Singh on the other hand favoured the collective  leadership stand of the party. Recently Rawat in his facebook post had said that some leaders are blaming him for the defeat of the party in the assembly elections in the social gatherings and these leaders should tell about the role played by them in the election. This barb of Harish Rawat was perceived to be aimed at Pritam Singh who retaliated by stating that the MLAs who won the elections were successful because of the party and their personal effort and not because of any charismatic leader. Singh has also said that the rebellion in the Congress in the year 2016 is responsible for the present poor condition of the party in the state.
