Proper diet vital for good immunity: Dr Sanjay

The Covid-19 pandemic has elicited focus on the importance of a healthy immune system. Along with food derived proteins, micronutrients like vitamins and minerals play a vital role in boosting immunity.

Orthopaedic surgeon Dr Gaurav Sanjay said this during a webinar organised by Sanjay Orthopaedic, Spine & Maternity Centre. He said that a balanced diet, physical work, eight hours of adequate sleep, eating green leafy vegetables and fresh fruits can increase our general immunity. He suggested, “As far as possible, we all should eat a banana -which is the best source of energy and magnesium, a lemon -which is rich in vitamin C, and an egg-contains almost all the important elements needed for the body. The use of a green tea rich in antioxidant, a green leafy vegetable rich in iron, calcium, magnesium and a fresh fruit containing fibres, folic acid and vitamin C increase our immunity. If you do regular Yoga for one hour along with it, then it contributes to improving your immunity as well. It is rightly said that you are what you eat.”
