The Governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh has said that receiving medical assistance within the golden hour in any accident or disaster is crucial to save lives. He said that in mountainous areas, road blockages, landslides and difficult geographical conditions make treatment difficult and in such a situation the helicopter medical services would be a boon for Uttarakhand. The governor was addressing the Helicopter Emergency Medical Service training programme at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Rishikesh on Wednesday.
The three-day training programme is being conducted in collaboration with the French Academy of Medicine and the Airbus Foundation. The programme will provide training in high-level emergency medical procedures to doctors, paramedics, technicians and pilots. The Governor described the programme as a life-saving initiative in the mountainous State of Uttarakhand.
He said that providing treatment in a helicopter is a highly complex task, requiring specialized skills and quick decision-making. The trained team will play a vital role in saving countless lives in the future. Appreciating the collaboration between the French Academy of Medicine and the Airbus Foundation with India, the governor said that this knowledge-sharing will further strengthen India’s healthcare system and provide doctors and students with experience at global standards.
The Governor said that given the geographical challenges of healthcare in Uttarakhand, innovation-based services such as AI-based diagnostics, drone drug delivery, telemedicine, and heli-ambulances will further strengthen the healthcare system in the future. He expressed confidence that these services will revolutionize emergency healthcare services not only in Uttarakhand but across the country.
AIIMS Rishikesh Director Dr Meenu Singh, Dean academics, Dr Jaya Chaturvedi and others attended the programme.
