Heavy rain warning downgraded from red to orange

Heavy rain was reported in various parts of the State on Tuesday, resulting in major inconvenience and potential risk. However, the weather is expected to calm down a bit on Wednesday with the red alert (take action) being dropped down a notch to an orange warning (be prepared to take action).

The State Meteorological Centre has issued an orange warning regarding the possibility of heavy rain/thunderstorms accompanied by lightning/intense to very intense spells of rain likely to occur at isolated places in Dehradun, Rudraprayag, Uttarkashi, Nainital, Champawat, Udham Singh Nagar and Bageshwar districts today.

A yellow warning (be aware)  has also been issued regarding the possibility of heavy rain/thunderstorms accompanied by lightning/intense to very intense spells of rain likely to occur at isolated places in Pauri, Tehri, Chamoli and Pithoragarh districts.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning/intense to very intense spells of rain are likely to occur at isolated places in remaining mountainous districts the State of Uttarakhand while thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are likely to occur at isolated places in Haridwar district today. Apart from this, light to moderate rain/thundershowers are likely to occur at a few places in Haridwar district and at many places in the remaining districts of the State.

Dehradun is forecast to witness a partly to generally cloudy sky. One to two spells of light to moderate rain/thundershowers, which may be heavy/intense spells of rain are likely to occur in some areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 28 degrees Celsius and 20 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today.

Meanwhile, Khatima witnessed very heavy rain with 135 millimetres while other parts saw heavy rain with 96.5 millimetres in Chorgalia, 68 millimetres in Haldwani, 64.5 millimetres in Nainidanda and 64.5 millimetres in Nainital. Most parts of the State witnessed light to moderate rain with 47.2 millimetres in Pantnagar, 44.4 millimetres in Mukteshwar, 31.2 millimetres in Dehradun and 15.8 millimetres in New Tehri.
