Heaters arranged for disaster affected families in Joshimath as cold intensifies

On the orders of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami that adequate arrangements should be made for protecting the affected families from the cold wave conditions, the district administration of Chamoli has come into action. The administration has provided heaters- blowers to 76 families so far and facility of the heating is available to the families shifted in the hotels. After the recent spell of rains and snowfall concerns about the people especially children and elderly people residing in the relief camps are being raised from various quarters. The CM himself had ordered the administration to make arrangements of heaters and bonfires in the camps in view of the cold wave conditions. The administration claimed that it has distributed thermal wears to 110 people, hot water bottles to 175 people, caps for 516, and socks to 280 persons and shawls to 196 persons in Joshimath. Similarly ration kits to 771, blankets to 601 and daily use kits to 114 people have so far been distributed. The nodal officer for housing facility, Soban Singh Rana said that 33 people of six families are staying in six rooms of Nagar Palika in Joshimath. Similarly 24 members of eight families are staying in a big hall of municipality. Seven families have been shifted to the seven rooms of Gurudwara while four families are staying at the primary school in Joshimath. The administration has made arrangements for keeping the affected families in various hotels, lodges and guest houses. A total of 900 people of 269 affected families of Joshimath are being kept in the relief camps. Rana said that the affected families are being kept in the guest houses, hotels, schools, Dharmshalas of their choice and convenience. He added that 58 members of 31 families have either shifted to rented accommodation or are living in the houses of their relatives.
