Heat wave conditions likely in mountainous areas too today

Heat wave conditions were experienced in Dehradun for the second consecutive day on Wednesday though the maximum temperature did not rise as high as forecast. The weather is expected to remain similar with heat wave conditions also forecast in some mountainous regions on Thursday. Meanwhile, the State meteorological centre has forecast that very light to light rain/thunderstorms are likely to occur at isolated places in the higher reaches of Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, and Pithoragarh districts of the State today. Dry weather is likely to prevail in the remaining districts of the State. Apart from this, surface winds are likely to be strong and gusty (30-40 kmph) in the plains of the State today. The meteorological centre has also issued a yellow warning (Watch) regarding the possibility of hat wave conditions likely to occur at isolated places in the valley of Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh districts and at a few places in the remaining district of the State on Thursday.
The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness a mainly clear sky. Heat wave conditions are likely to occur in some areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 42 degrees Celsius and 25 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today.
The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various parts of the State on Wednesday were 41.6 degrees Celsius and 24.4 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 41.5 degrees Celsius and 21.5 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 30 degrees Celsius and 17.1 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 31.5 degrees Celsius and 19.8 degrees Celsius in New Tehri.
