Acting on the orders of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the State Health department has suspended the additional chief medical officer (ACMO) Chamoli, Dr Mohammad Shah Hasan. His suspension will come into force with immediate effect. During the period of suspension Dr Hasan will remain attached to the district headquarter of Rudraprayag and assist in the departmental inquiry.
On Saturday, the vehicle (SUV) driven by Dr Hasan collided with a bike in which two persons were seriously injured. A video of the accident had also gone viral in which the officer appeared in an inebriated condition.
An initial inquiry was conducted in the case and its report submitted to the director general (DG) Health services clearly mentions that the ACMO had consumed alcohol. The State administration found that the behaviour of the officer violated the Uttarakhand employees’ service conduct rules- 2025 and after taking permission of the governor, Dr Hasan was suspended with immediate effect on Monday.
The secretary, Health, R Rajesh Kumar said that under the leadership of CM Dhami, the State government is giving priority to quality, accountability and discipline in the State services. He said that indiscipline at any level will not be tolerated. Kumar said that the incident is not only painful for the affected families but also affects the credentials of the Health department. He said that the government has adopted a policy of zero tolerance in such cases.
“Our commitment is not limited to treatment of patients but also to ensure that the people have faith in the State health services. Such incidents will not be tolerated and the administration will continue to take strong disciplinary action so that the spirit of transparency, accountability and service remains in the health system,’’ he said.
