The district Health department has made all necessary arrangements and facilities for the ongoing Kanwad Yatra. The district administration and the district Health department along with others have taken steps to ensure that the people on the religious journey face no major health issues.
Speaking of the district Health department’s preparations, the chief medical officer (CMO), Dehradun, Dr Manoj Kumar Sharma stated that nothing would be found wanting as far as the health of those on the Yatra in the district is concerned.
Sharing details, he said that two Medical Relief Posts (MRP) have been set up for the purpose. “One MRP has been set up in the industrial area of Rishikesh while the other, in Shyampur. Each MRP is staffed with teams of doctors, pharmacists and other personnel. The medical teams include professionals from the Ayurvedic department as well as local doctors from Rishikesh, Doiwala and their surrounding areas,” he stated.
In total, there are two teams of doctors and supporting staff at each of these MRPs. It has been further ensured that both the MRPs are stocked with the essential medications in adequate quantities to face health emergencies during the Yatra. Furthermore, ambulances have been made available at each of these MRPs to transport those found sick to higher medical facilities.
The CMO informed that in the event of any serious cases occurring during the Kanwad Yatra, the sick yatris would be transferred to the SPS Government Hospital in Rishikesh and to facilitate this, ambulances at each MRPS have been kept ready.
“Aside from these MRPs, the pilgrims can seek assistance at the health camps set up for the Char Dham Yatra if they feel they need such assistance,” Sharma added.
