HC seeks report from MoSJE secretary on NIEPVD security

In the case of sexual harassment of students at the National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disabilities (NIEPVD) in Dehradun, the local police post in charge submitted her confidential report in a sealed envelope to the High Court on Wednesday. Taking cognizance of the report, the High Court has directed the secretary of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment to submit a detailed report before February 5 on the improvement of security in the institute. The inquiry report of the previous institute director should also be presented in the court, the division bench of chief justice Ramesh Ranganathan and justice Ramesh Chandra Khulbe directed. The court has also directed Lalit Belwal appointed Nyaya Mitra in this case, to submit his recommendations for security in the institute along with an affidavit in the court. Earlier, the High Court had directed the police post in charge to conduct a thorough probe in the institute. It is pertinent to mention here that earlier this year, a music teacher in the institute was accused of sexual harassment of a student. The High Court had taken cognizance of the case and directed action against the accused faculty member.
