In latest news from Dehradun, the State higher education minister Dhan Singh Rawat again asserted that the students’ union elections would be held in the universities and colleges across Uttarakhand within two weeks. The senior officers of the department have been given the direction to take the required steps in this matter. Notably, the minister chaired a review meeting of his department at his assembly office. Now, the vice chancellors of the universities would fix the dates of such elections in consultation with the officers concerned. The minister had earlier announced that the students’ union elections in the colleges and universities across the State would be held on the same day.  Rawat had also given the direction to the VCs of the universities to regularise the academic sessions. It is noteworthy that the minister has been insisting on enforcing uniform academic calendar meaning uniformity in admissions, examinations, results, students’ union elections and convocations in all colleges and universities across the State.  He had said that his department wanted to have students’ union elections be held simultaneously in all the higher educational institutions in the State so as to ensure that the academic session was not interrupted. Rawat said that notification on the date of the students’ union elections would be issued once the VCs in consultation with the senior education department and State administration officers fix the schedules.
