A large number of Congress leaders and activists and also ex-servicemen attended the Kafal party hosted here by the Congress veteran and former chief minister, Harish Rawat. Kafal is a small, wild berry native to the mid-Himalayan region which appears briefly between April and June. Known for its medicinal and other properties and vibrant colour, its fleeting presence has inspired stories and poems aside from nourishing mountain traditions.
While exhorting people to consume this natural fruit of the mountains and preserve the mountainous environment, he said that it had been hosted to articulate the people’s gratitude to the country’s armed forces for the spectacular success of the Operation Sindoor. However, being a consummate politician who never misses an opportunity to tear into his adversaries, he hurled a roundabout barb on the BJP-helmed government in Uttarakhand.
