Stating that Haridwar is a pilgrimage centre venerated by millions of devotees, the CM said that the underground cabling here was inaugurated under the Integrated Power Development Scheme of the Power ministry.

Thanking union minister Singh, the CM also thanked the central government for approving Rs 388.49 crore for underground cabling in Haridwar. He also appreciated the agencies involved for completing this task on time. He said, “This project has been executed in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s farsighted vision with top priority being accorded to the interests of the locals. With the inauguration of this project, there will not be any disruption in electricity supply to the Kumbh Mela area and the consumers in Haridwar will receive 24 hour electricity supply. This facility will prevent possible mishaps due to inclement weather and the breaking of wires while also lowering maintenance cost and making space available for beautification in residential and commercial areas. Underground cabling will also enable road widening which will decrease the traffic load here,” said the CM.

Rawat said that the state government is fully prepared to organise a divine, grant, beautify and safe Kumbh Mela. All necessary arrangements have been made for the convenience and safety of the devotees. The state government is committed to ensuring that members of the religious fraternity and devotees do not face any problems here, he said. The CM further appealed to those coming to attend the Kumbh Mela, to follow the central government guidelines on Covid. All should wear masks, maintain social distancing and frequently wash their hands, he added.

Union minister RK Singh said that Haridwar had become the second city after Varanasi to be linked with underground cabling facility. He said that efforts will be undertaken to expand the facility in Haridwar. The minister said that underground cabling brings about considerable improvement in the quality of electricity supply. It will also bring about a considerable drop in power loss. He also appreciated the agencies involved for timely completion of the project.

Chief secretary Om Prakash said that Haridwar is visited by a large number of devotees during Kumbh Mela and other important occasions. Underground cabling will enhance the convenience for both the local public and the visiting devotees.
