Harela a symbol of cultural heritage & tradition of U’khand: Governor

 Governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh has said that the festival of Harela is deeply embedded in the lifestyle of Uttarakhand and is a symbol of cultural heritage, agricultural tradition and connection with nature.

He was addressing a programme organised at Raj Bhawan to celebrate Harela on Wednesday. He said that Harela is not just a traditional festival, but is also a call for collective green initiatives in the era of climate change and environmental crisis.

The governor said that Uttarakhand is the guardian of environmental balance for the entire India due to its rich natural wealth, dense forests and biodiversity.

 He said that it is the duty of every citizen to plant as many trees as possible and also ensure that the planted saplings grow safely. The governor also said that conservation of nature is not only a need of today, but it is our responsibility towards future generations. Therefore, we all have to maintain balance with nature together. 

Wife of governor Gurmeet Kaur, secretary Ravinath Raman, additional secretary Reena Joshi, forest conservator Kahkasha Naseem and others attended the programme.
