Guv, CM flag off first batch of Hemkund Pilgrims

 The governor Lieutenant General (Retd) Gurmit Singh and chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami flagged off the first group of Hemkund Sahib Pilgrims from Rishikesh on Wednesday. The duo paid their obeisance in the Gurudwara and prayed for peace and prosperity in the State. Speaking on the occasion, the Governor congratulated the pilgrims for undertaking the pious journey led by the Panj Pyaras. He said that the Yatra is the journey of faith and devotion. 

The governor said that Uttarakhand is the State of rich traditions of Gurus. He said that every pilgrim undertaking the Yatra is our brand ambassador. He also expressed his happiness over the information that more than 2000 pilgrims have already registered for the  Yatra.  

 The CM said that necessary arrangements for the Hem Kund Sahib pilgrims have been done. He appealed that every pilgrim should get the medical examination done before embarking upon the Yatra. The CM said that the Char Dham Yatra is at its peak in the state. He said that last year more than 50 lakh people came to the Char Dhams and this year more pilgrims than last year are expected in the Yatra. He said that every possible facility and arrangements have been made to ensure that the pilgrims do not face any problem in the Yatra.

 Expressing his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for laying the foundation stones of Kedarnath and Hemkund Sahib ropeways, the CM said these ropeways would make the Yatra easy and more comfortable. He added that the completion of Karnprayag- Rishikesh rail project would also make Hemkund Yatra more accessible.

 Cabinet Ministers Satpal Maharaj, Prem Chand Agarwal, Subodh Uniyal, former CM Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank, Rishikesh Mayor Anita Mamgain and chairman of the Hemkund Sahib Management Trust N S Bindra were present on the occasion.
