Guest teachers to be appointed soon

The Uttarakhand High Court (HC) on August 14 had directed the vacant seats in the department be filled by the guest teachers within 15 days

After removal of all hiccups, the decks have finally been cleared for the recruitment of the guest teachers on vacant posts of lecturers and lecturer teachers in the Government schools of the State. The department which was waiting for the audit of the online software it prepared for the recruitment of 5034 posts of guest teachers has finally put it into place. The education director, R K Kunwar said that the online applications for the guest teachers would now be sought by the department. In the Government schools of the State, a total of 4200 posts of lecturers and 834 posts of lecturer teachers (LT) have been lying vacant and the department would appoint guest teachers on these posts on purely temporary basis. To accommodate the guest teachers who have worked in the past with the department with a provision of bonus marks has been made in the selection process. The Uttarakhand High Court (HC) on August 14 had directed the vacant seats in the department be filled by the guest teachers within 15 days.  However, the procedural delays and subsequent imposition of the model code of conduct in the state due to urban local body elections had delayed the process. In the recently concluded winter session of Vidhan Sabha too, the Education Minister faced ire of the MLAs for not filling the vacant posts of teachers in Government schools. The recruitment of the guest teachers would be done on the basis of district-wise merit list. In the districts, a committee headed by the District Magistrates would make appointments of guest faculty. A stipend of Rs 15,000 per month would be paid to the guest teachers and at the time of appointments, the candidates would have to submit an undertaking that they would not make any demand for permanent appointments.

 HC removes stay

Nainital: With Uttarakhand High Court removing the stay imposed on the recruitment of 1214 lecturer teachers (LT), the long wait of the selected candidates seems to be over. After a long process of inviting applications that almost took two years, the Uttarakhand Subordinate Selection Commission started the process of recruitment on 1214 posts of LT in January this year after which the selected candidates were invited for counselling. Alleging large scale irregularities in the recruitment and not fulfilling the reservation norms, Harish Kumar, Pushpa Sarki and some others filed a petition in the High Court. Acting on the petition, the court imposed a stay on the process of the appointment. A committee headed by secretary, D Senthil Pandian was constituted on the issue. The committee submitted its report in a sealed envelope and after going through the report, the court of Justice Sharad Kumar Sharma removed stay on the appointments on Tuesday.
