Haridwar police arrest five men for breaking ATM to steal cash

The Haridwar police in the wee hours of Monday nabbed five men when they were caught stealing money from an ATM after breaking it in the Jagjitpur area which had Rs 13.54 lakh. The senior superintendent of police of Haridwar Ajai Singh said that the accused were nabbed when two police personnel heard noises from an ATM around 2:30 AM during their patrol duty.

They observed a man near the ATM disguised as a worker and interrogated him. He told them about his plan of stealing money from the ATM along with his other four accomplices. Singh said that a police force was immediately sent to the spot to nab thieves after the police personnel informed senior officials about the incident. 

The SSP said that by the time the police team arrived at the scene, the thieves had broken the ATM but were arrested before they could steal the money and run away.  The police also recovered illegal pistols, hammers, axe and other items from the accused which they had brought along to steal the money. The police have imposed charges against the accused under sections 380, 398, 399, 400, 402, 427, 457, and 511 of the Indian Penal Code and 3/25 Arms Act. All accused are locals of the district and will be presented in the court soon, added Singh.
