The Kumaun-Garhwal Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KGCCI) chairman Ashok Bansal said that the meeting of the State-level Udyog Mitra committee held recently at the secretariat was an important step towards strengthening industries in the State.

Secretaries and senior officials of about 22 departments were present in the meeting chaired by chief secretary Anand Bardhan. Bansal raised various issues facing the industrial sector including the need for relief from “unnecessary” taxes being collected from electricity consumers, cess, duty and royalty, connecting industries in rural areas with industrial feeders for uninterrupted power supply, property tax relaxation for industries located in areas brought under the purview of urban local bodies and discontinuing the practice of joint inquiry/third-party audit implemented in industries, among other issues.

He said that the chief secretary directed the officials concerned to facilitate redressal of the issues raised by the KGCCI and other organisations.
