PIONEER NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun
The vice president of Uttarakhand Congress Suryakant Dhasmana has accused the State government for trying to destroy the system of government education in Uttarakhand.
Interacting with the media persons at headquarters of the State Congress on Friday, Dhasmana claimed that the State government is planning to close 1488 schools in the State. He said that the Education department has decided to merge these 1488 schools into cluster schools. Schools located in the 30 km periphery of a cluster school will be merged. Dhasmana warned that the decision will have a long lasting negative effect on the education system in the State.
He said that distance of 30 km is substantial in the mountainous areas of the State. The Congress leader said that it is unfortunate that the Education department which has failed to provide textbooks even after three months of the start of new session has prepared a plan to close schools by making decreasing student enrolment a basis.
He said that closure of 1488 schools will result in the abolition of thousands of posts of principals, teachers and ministerial employees.
Dhasmana warned that the Congress party will not allow closure of the schools and attempts of privatisation of the education system in the State.
