Governor visits Kumaon Regimental Centre in Ranikhet

The Governor Lt Gen (retd) Gurmit Singh visited the Kumaon Regimental Centre in Ranikhet during his tour of Almora district. He interacted with the army officers and soldiers posted at the centre as well as the Agniveers undergoing training there. On this occasion, he also felicitated Veer Naris whose sacrifice and patience he described as an inspiration for the nation.

The Commander of the centre, Brigadier S K Yadav informed the Governor about the current activities and future plans of the centre through a presentation. He appreciated the ongoing skill development programmes for soldiers and their families, digitisation of documents and coordination with higher education institutions under the ‘Outreach Programmes’.

He suggested special centres be set up at the local level to connect ex-servicemen and their families with homestay and bee keeping among others.

Hailing the history of the Kumaon Regiment, he said that this is one of the largest infantry regiments of the Indian Army in which 23 battalions are currently operational.
