Governor asks universities to update curriculum as per State’s needs & challenges

Governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh has said that the universities should update their curriculum to reflect the State’s needs, natural resources, and social challenges. He said that universities are not only the centres of imparting education but are also the pillars of nation-building. The governor chaired a meeting of the vice chancellors of the State universities at Raj Bhawan on Thursday.

He said that the universities should not merely confer degrees but should also prepare young people to contribute in the development of society, State, and the Nation. The Governor stated that every university must ensure that its students acquire knowledge and skills relevant to future needs. He added that in the changing global environment, it is crucial to connect education with industry, innovation, and technology.

The Governor also directed universities to strengthen their alumni networks. He stated that alumni are any institution’s greatest asset, and their experience, guidance, and resources can make invaluable contributions to a university’s development. He directed that each university establish active placement centres that maintain continuous dialogue with industry and provide internship and employment opportunities to students. The governor also praised all universities for having conducted excellent research under the ‘one University, one research’ initiative.
