Governor asks students to practice continuous learning & adhere to truth, discipline & duty

Governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh conferred degrees on 18,146 students in the tenth convocation ceremony of Uttarakhand Open University in Haldwani on Monday. He also awarded Ph.D degrees to six scholars on the occasion.
Congratulated the students on National Youth Day, the governor asked the students to practice continuous learning along with the values of truth, discipline, duty and social responsibility. Appreciating the UOU, the governor said that the university is working to connect everyone with higher education by entering into agreements with many educational institutions, prisons, the army and institutions like IIT Roorkee. He told the students who have earned graduate and postgraduate degrees in various disciplines that they are revolutionaries and should take their knowledge to remote areas of the State and do the commendable work of connecting those deprived of education with the mainstream. The governor said that no nation can develop unless education is its mainstay.
He said that the nation is supreme and exhorted the students to bring about change within them and define dreams as goals. The governor said that education is a continuous process and a student should always have a learning instinct. Cultivating curiosity and constantly exploring to satisfy it is a student’s primary duty. He added that digital education is a necessity in today’s age and a nation’s progress is determined by its education system.
The governor said that the progress of any nation is determined by its education. He said that more than two lakh students from more than 60 countries are getting education in UOU . The UOU is the first university in the state to implement the National Education Policy.
The vice chancellor of UOU Naveen Chandra Lohani presented the progress report of the university.
