The Dehradun district magistrate Sonika on Monday ordered the officials concerned to impose the Gangster Act on the offenders involved in land frauds across the district. The DM also directed the sub-divisional magistrates (SDMs) to conduct on-the-spot inspections of the lands from where the administration had removed encroachments recently to ensure that no illegal activities are taking place there. All SDMs are required to send reports to the DM after inspection of such lands in their respective areas, ordered Sonika. She gave these instructions during a public hearing on Monday in which the DM received 76 complaints. The DM received several complaints regarding land fraud, encroachment, damaged roads and pending sewer works among others.

She directed the respective officials of all major departments and government bodies including MDDA, municipal bodies, police, and irrigation department among others to be present in public hearings of the district administration roster wise to ensure immediate redressal of complainants’ problems. She also directed the officials of the forest department to be present in every hearing. The DM has also sought clarification from the engineer concerned of Jal Sansthan for not taking cognisance of a complaint of blocked drains caused by the department’s work near Haridwar Road. The DM received the complaint in the last week’s public hearing and had directed the officials concerned to take cognisance of the matter immediately. The complainant again arrived with the same complaint on Monday due to which, the DM sought clarification from the official concerned on why he failed to take action on the matter despite her order.  She directed all officials concerned to maintain coordination with one another to carry out work and take cognisance of the complaints in time.
