PIONEER NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun
The police’s preliminary findings in the Doiwala minor girl death case indicate no signs of sexual assault or physical injuries on the victim’s body. The information came following the post mortem examination conducted by a panel of doctors, including a woman doctor. However, the detailed report is awaited and further action will be taken after its receipt, the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said.
The incident occurred on Saturday near the Suswa river in the Kudkawala area, where police were informed about a girl found hanging inside a room at a local crusher. Singh said that the police officers from Doiwala police station reached the scene and the four young men working at the site told them that they had allegedly stopped two girls who were stealing metal scrap from their plot. They claimed that while one girl fled, the other was confined to a room. They reportedly called the police, claiming they had caught a girl stealing iron scrap and had locked her inside but by the time they noticed her again, the girl had allegedly hanged herself inside the room.
The police were told that the men had broken the door open upon discovering her hanging. Singh said that the CCTV footage from the location has been collected and is under detailed examination. The site has been sealed and a forensic team has inspected and documented the scene. The girl’s body was sent for postmortem and her family, who live in Keshavpuri Basti, was informed and asked to file an official complaint. Based on the family’s complaint, an FIR was registered under relevant sections at the Doiwala police station.
All four accused have been taken into custody for questioning. Singh said that in view of the case’s sensitivity, a special investigation team has been formed under the supervision of the SP Rishikesh, including members from the local police, AHTU, SOG and field units. The team will collect and scientifically test all physical and electronic evidence. The other girl present at the time will also undergo counselling by an independent counsellor to gather detailed information, he said.
Besides this, the SSP also visited the girl’s family at the district hospital on Sunday and assured them that a fair investigation will be conducted and strict action taken against anyone found guilty. The SSP said that the police have also identified individuals allegedly trying to mislead the public or disrupt law and order in relation to this case and action will be taken against them as well.
