GDMC hospital starts trial to raise dialysis to two shifts

PIONEER NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun
To begin the dialysis services in two shifts, the administration at Government Doon Medical College hospital has initiated a trial in terms of reverse osmosis (RO) water capacity. This information was shared by the chief medical superintendent of the hospital, Dr RS Bisht.
Bisht stated that the hospital administration has been planning for a few months to enhance services for patients. However, the process required the recruitment of additional staff, which was underway earlier. The recruitment includes hiring nurses and other personnel. Currently, with the recruitment of the Staff, the hospital administration is moving forward with plans to implement the dialysis service, starting with the water consumption capacity trial.
He stated that a significant water capacity is essential for dialysis and as a result, they are currently testing the RO capacity for water release. This trial process is expected to last approximately two months, after which dialysis services will begin at the hospital. He said that 1,500 litres of water is required for dialysis for 10 patients. Currently, dialysis services are available from 9 AM to 3 PM; however, once the trial is complete, a second shift will be introduced from 3 PM to 8 PM, which will automatically lead to two shifts of dialysis in a day. This increase in dialysis availability will allow patients to receive care more conveniently, he said. Additionally, he added that earlier the hospital administration was also focused on hiring more staff to expand the number of ICU beds. Regarding this, they have increased the ICU capacity by 15 beds, raising the total from 80. If further recruitment of ICU beds is required in the future, the hospital will address that need, he said. It is important to note that earlier, Dr Bisht added that as soon as the nurses are appointed at the hospital, the services will strengthen over time.
