The administration of the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) Hospital has taken measures to address the blood shortage at the blood bank located on its premises. The hospital organised a blood donation drive on Thursday, primarily aimed at its in-house community, including staff, doctors and medical students.
Informing about this, Dr RS Bisht, the medical superintendent at GDMC, informed that while it had initially been planned to hold the blood donation camp on a different date, the urgent need for blood—based on reports and direct observations—prompted the decision to conduct the donation event immediately on Thursday within the hospital. He stated that the blood donation camp was primarily arranged for individuals within the hospital premises, including staff, doctors and employees.
In addition, some volunteers and media representatives were also invited to participate in the blood donation and donate blood. Bisht informed that a significant number of doctors, employees, medical students and other individuals, including volunteers, donated blood during the event, leading to an average collection of 75 to 80 units.
He informed that the main aim of organising the blood donation camp was to address the shortage of blood experienced by the blood bank. He set an example by being the first blood donor at the camp, which encouraged other doctors to follow suit. He emphasised the importance of scheduling such blood donation camps at the hospital more frequently in the future.
