Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, has been selected for the Dr Ambedkar Chair in 2025. This honour is bestowed by Dr Ambedkar Foundation, operating under the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. This year, three leading institutions in the country—the University of Mumbai, Jaipur National University and Pantnagar Agricultural University—have been awarded this chair. Notably, this is the first time an agricultural university has been selected.
The objective of the Dr Ambedkar Chair is to promote the study and dissemination of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar’s ideas related to social justice, empowerment and agricultural reform. This Chair will study contemporary challenges in agriculture and community science related to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and economically weaker sections and develop policy recommendations.
Under the Chair, the University will receive special financial support for research activities, including the appointment of one professor, two assistant professors, and two research associates.
Congratulating all the teachers, officials and students on this achievement, the vice- chancellor, Manmohan Singh Chauhan said, “This achievement is a matter of pride not only for Pantnagar University but for Uttarakhand.”
