GBPUAT develops a new variety of barley

A new variety of barley UPB 1106 (Pant Barley 1106) developed by G B Pant University of Agriculture & Technology, Pantnagar was released by the Central Sub-Committee on Notification of Crop Standards and Release of Varieties for Agricultural Crops of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research and it was notified by the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare for its cultivation in the plains of 12 states, namely, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, Assam and North Eastern States. The coordinator of Wheat and Barley Research Project at the university, J P Jaiswal informed that it took about 12 years to develop this variety.

This variety has been developed by scientists of the department of Genetics and Plant Breeding of GBPUAT. The vice- chancellor of the university, Manmohan Singh Chauhan; director, Research, A S Nain and dean, Agriculture, Subhash Chandra congratulated the scientists for developing this variety.
