Considering the findings of a report of the geological survey of Vikasnagar’s Jakhan village conducted following a massive landslide last week, the Dehradun district administration will soon start finding new locations to rehabilitate the affected families. The survey report has revealed that the site where are least 10 houses collapsed in the landslide is no longer safe for habitation. Considering this, the administration will soon find new locations to rehabilitate about 20 affected families that include about 150 people, said the district magistrate Sonika. A geological team surveyed the area on Friday to learn about the safety of the area regarding rehabilitation that submitted a report to the district administration on Sunday. According to the report, several geomorphological features were found near the site, indicating a tectonically active area that can cause subsidence there. The DM said that the administration received the report on Sunday and will soon start finding new locations to rehabilitate the affected families. She said, “The whole process from finding a suitable location to rehabilitate affected families will take at least four to six months. We will choose locations where geological surveys will also be conducted to establish the safety of the area. Sometimes the affected families do not like the location and refuse to relocate to the chosen area. This takes a considerable amount of time but the administration will try to relocate the families as soon as possible. Till then, they will be provided with all possible assistance.”
