Gas cylinder decision violation of election code – Congress

FRIDAY, 13 May | PNS | DEHRADUN

The Uttarakhand Congress has termed the State cabinet’s decision to provide three cooking gas free of cost to poor families a violation of Model Code of Conduct (MCC).

The former Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president and Chakrata MLA Pritam Singh said that the decision to provide three cooking gas cylinders free of cost in a year to poor families has been taken to woo the electorate and is an open violation of MCC enforced in Champawat. The chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is the candidate of BJP for the Champawat Assembly by -poll.

Questioning the timing of the announcement, senior leader of Congress party Surya Kant Dhasmana said that the Dhami government could have taken it earlier and now when the MCC is enforced in Champawat the decision is an open violation of the MCC. Launching a scathing attack on the government, the spokesperson of Uttarakhand Congress, Garima Mahara Dasauni said that it appears that the CM Dhami is determined to put the MCC into shreds. She said that the Congress party has approached the Election Commission (EC) four times in the last few days on violation of MCC. Dasauni added that the free gas cylinder decision also shows how desperate the CM has become to increase his chances of victory from Champawat. She said that the decision also underlies the fear in the mind of the CM.
