Yellow warning issued for six districts, rain likely to wane in coming days

The State meteorological department has issued a yellow warning (watch) regarding the possibility of thunderstorms with lightning and intense to very intense spells in parts of six districts on Saturday. However, the rainfall activity is forecast to become less intense in the coming days.

The meteorological centre has issued the yellow warning regarding the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and intense to very intense spells likely to occur at isolated places in Nainital, Champawat, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, Almora and Udham Singh Nagar districts today. Apart from this, light to moderate rain/thunderstorms are likely to occur at many places in Nainital, Champawat, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, Almora and Udham Singh Nagar districts and at a few places in the remaining districts of the State on Saturday.

The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness partly to generally cloudy skies with light to moderate rain/thunderstorms likely to occur in some areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 33 degrees Celsius and 24 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the State meteorological centre director Bikram Singh said on Friday that the rainfall activity after a few days is expected to drop. The activity will be isolated or scattered and the rainfall will vary from light to moderate. “The activity will drop in the next two to three days and there will not be any significant activity in the next eight to 10 days,” said Singh.

According to the meteorological centre, light rain was reported in various parts of the State on Friday with 10 millimetres in Berinag, nine millimetres in Thal, six millimetresin Chorgalia/Jakholi and 4.5 millimetres in Auli. The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various places on Friday were 33 degrees Celsius and 24.4 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 33.4 degrees Celsius and 24.5 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 24 degrees Celsius and 15.5 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 25.3 degrees Celsius and 17.3 degrees Celsius in New Tehri.
