Gangotri’s portals to be closed for public today

The portals of Gangotri temple will be closed today at 12:01 PM during the Abhijit Muhurta. After the closure of the doors, devotees from all over the country and abroad will be able to pay obeisance to goddess Ganga during her winter stay at Mukhimath (Mukhba). The closure of the Gangotri temple marks the start of the process of the closure of Char Dham shrines to the public for the winter.

The Gangotri temple committee has started preparations to close the portals of Gangotri temple. Every year on the occasion of Annakoot, the portals of Gangotri are closed for the devotees of the country and abroad. The crown of goddess Ganga will be lowered at the Annakoot at 10:15 AM which will be followed by Nirvana Darshan. This will be followed by Mahabhishek of the idol of the the goddess with Veda mantras. After this, the doors of the temple will be closed following a Hawan. After this, at 12:05 PM, the Utsav Doli of Ganga will leave for her winter stay at Mukhba village. The procession will stop for the night at Chandeshwari Devi temple (Markandeya temple) from where it will leave for Mukhba on the morning of October 27.
