The head of the campaign committee of Uttarakhand Congress and former chief minister Harish Rawat has said that the people of Uttarakhand would vote for a change on February 14. Addressing media persons here on Saturday, Rawat said that a clear enthusiasm is visible among the people of the state for the elections and such an enthusiasm is witnessed when the people make up their mind for change in  government. He said that the Congress party is prepared for the elections.

Launching an attack on the BJP government Rawat said that the people of the state witnessed a period of bad governance during the last five years and all sections of the society including women, dalits, minorities, unemployed and employees suffered during the BJP government in the state. He said that the much touted double engine proved a non-starter in Uttarakhand and the BJP itself accepted this by making three Chief Ministers. Rawat said Trivendra Singh Rawat was removed from the CM’s post by BJP when he was steering the budget of his party in the budget session. “The second CM didn’t know when he was appointed and removed,’’ he opined.

The Congress leader said that the BJP has now become so arrogant that it is now saying that it can appoint and remove 10 CMs and no one should ask why it is doing so. He alleged that the mining mafia is on a spree of loot of mineral wealth of Uttarakhand.

Rawat said that the Congress party would follow the Covid -19 guidelines and model code of conduct (MCC) and expressed hope that things which happened during the West Bengal polls are not repeated in these elections.

He said that the Congress party has finalised candidates in 45 seats and it has withheld release of the list due to strategic reasons. The head of the campaign committee of Congress said that the party would make maximum use of social media and the workers should lay emphasis on door to door contact with the electorate for the upcoming elections.

On the question of his contesting the assembly elections Rawat said that he is ready to contest if the party decides to field him.
