Vasantotsav to be held on March 13-14 at Raj Bhawan

The annual floral exhibition Vasantotsav will be held in the Raj Bhawan on March 13-14 this year. This decision was taken in a meeting chaired by governor Baby Rani Maurya on Thursday. It was also decided that the governor will inaugurate the event at 9 AM and that the exhibition will be open to the general public from 11 AM. As in the past years, a special postal cover on a special plant of the state will be released on the occasion. It will be recalled that Vasantotsav was not held last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The governor directed that two hours be kept reserved for children in the exhibition. Children from poor families and deprived section of society will be specially invited to the event. She further said that the exhibition should be made more useful for flower producers. New categories of indoor plants, herbal and aromatic plants should also be incorporated in the exhibition. The description and use of important plants and herbs should also be displayed. At the same time, all precautions against Covid-19 should be maintained with all arrangements for thermal scanning, sanitiser and masks, said Maurya. Red Cross volunteers should be placed to help maintain social distancing while adequate number of wheelchairs should also be kept for the differently abled. Further, priority should be accorded to stalls of women self help groups. The culture department was directed to prepare quality programmes based on the folk art and culture of Uttarakhand.

Horticulture secretary Harbans Chugh, horticulture director HS Baweja, additional secretary to the governor, Jitendra Sonkar and other officials were also present in the meeting.
