Former chief minister and head of the campaign committee of Uttarakhand Congress Harish Rawat has said the BJP government of Uttarakhand caught cold on the issue of holding the assembly session in Gairsain. He added that the state government should seek apology from the people for running away from Gairsain.

Addressing the media persons at Congress Bhawan here on Wednesday Rawat said that the Pushkar Singh Dhami government had first decided to hold the winter session of the assembly in Bharadisain, Gairsain but later developed cold feet and now the government is planning to hold session in Dehradun. He said that the government can hold session at either Dehradun or Gairsain but taking the plea of cold conditions for not holding the session in Gairsain is an insult to the people of Uttarakhand. Rawat said that Uttarakhand was created as a mountainous state and there are many areas in the state which are colder than Bharadisain where the assembly is located. He said that the government didn’t consult opposition parties when it convened a session in Gairsain but now it is claiming to consult the opposition for organising the session in Dehradun.

Rawat said that he would soon embark on a month-long Yatra of the state to promote Uttarakhandiyat. He said that he would highlight the failure of the government to fulfil the aspiration of the people of the state by raising issues of Mandwa, Sugarcane and Artisans in the Yatra. Rawat said that he would try to cover all parts of the state and all assembly segments of the state in his Yatra.

The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Ganesh Godiyal said that the Congress party had decided to hold a massive protest rally in Gairsain on the opening day of the assembly session. He claimed that the government got terrified of the protest plan of the Congress and ran away from Gairsain. Godiyal added that the speaker of Uttarakhand assembly Prem Chand Agarwal had called him on phone and inquired about his preference for the assembly session. “I told the speaker that the session should be held in Gairsain. Now they are planning to hold the session in Dehradun which proves that the government has conceded to the pressure of their MLAs who don’t want to go to Gairsain,’’ Godiyal said.
