FRI campus closed to visitors till Dec 5

Sunday, 28 November 2021 | PNS | Dehradun

The Forest Research Institute (FRI) campus will remain closed to tourists and visitors till December 5 as a result of the old hostel of Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy (IGNFA) being declared a micro containment zone by the Dehradun district magistrate on Thursday. The decision to close the institute to visitors has been taken as a precautionary measure against the spread of Covid-19.

It is pertinent to mention that the IGNFA old hostel was turned into a micro containment zone after 11 Indian Forest Service (IFS) officers from the academy tested positive for Covid. About 48 IFS officers had gone to Lucknow for a mid-career training programme and 11 of them had tested positive for Covid after their return to Dehradun. They have been kept under isolation in the hostel which is situated in the FRI campus.

It should be mentioned here that apart from a number of walkers, the FRI campus also attracts a regular stream of visitors to its museums along with sightseers.
