Four teens drown in Kapkot pond

Four teenagers wanting to bathe in a pond met with a tragic end when three of them died while the fourth is missing after they drowned while bathing in a local pond in Gogina village of Kapkot Tehsil in Bageshwar district on Monday. The search for the four missing youth was on till late in the evening.

According to the locals, four youngsters of the Gogina village went to the local pond to bathe after having breakfast on Monday. Three of them were studying in Haldwani and Bindukhatta, and had come home on leave. Another teenager from the village had accompanied them to the pond. Villagers who came to know about the mishap were able to pull out three of the teenagers from the pond while the fourth was missing. District disaster management officer Shikha Suyal informed that the bodies of Abhishek Singh (16), Ajay Singh (17) and Suresh Singh (13) had been retrieved while a 16-year-old was still missing till the time of this report being filed. Abhishek’s father Trilok Singh Rautela is posted in the special operation group (SOG) in Halwani while Ajay’s father Narayan Singh Rautela is posted in the army at Kota in Rajasthan. Abhishek and Ajay are cousin brothers. The Bageshwar superintendent of police Amit Srivastava informed that the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel had also reached the site of the mishap. They were involved in the search operation which was continuing to trace the fourth teenager. The death of three teenagers with the fourth also feared dead has spread a pall of gloom in the village.
