Four residents of Haryana killed, one Injured in road accident in Dehradun

Four people from Haryana died and one person sustained serious injuries when the car they were travelling in ran into a truck being driven ahead near Asharodi in Dehradun on Sunday morning. The incident occurred when a speeding Maruti Ritz car collided with a cement-loaded trailer fr9m behind near Asharodi. The car, being driven from Saharanpur to Dehradun, crashed into the trailer from behind with such force that it was severely damaged, the superintendent of police (City) Pramod Kumar said. He informed that incident reportedly happened at about 3:10 AM.

The police reached the spot after receiving information and used cutting equipment to retrieved the victims from the car wreckage. All five occupants were taken to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay district hospital and Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital with the help of 108 ambulances. Doctors declared four of them dead on arrival, while one person is undergoing treatment for critical injuries, he said.

The deceased were identified as Ankush, Paras, Ankit and Naveen. Vinay is undergoing treatment. The SP said that the police have sent the bodies for postmortem and informed the families of the victims. Further legal procedures will take place after the families arrive. The trailer involved in the accident has been seized by the police.

The driver Aftab, a Saharanpur residenct, has been taken into custody for questioning. On the question of whether the car driver was drunk or sleep deprived, the SP said that the cause of the accident is yet to be confirmed.
