FOSTAC training highlights evolving food landscape and safety challenges

A discussion on the evolving food landscape in the country and emerging challenges linked with processed and packaged food took place at the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES), Dehradun on Tuesday under FSSAI’s Food Safety Training and Certification (FOSTAC) programme. The deputy commissioner of Food and Drug Administration (FDA Ganesh Kandwal, addressed participants on issues related to food hazards, contamination, additives, labelling and packaging and urged students to stay aware of changing trends in the sector. The dean of School of Health Sciences and Technology Padma Venkat said that such training helps prepare students for future responsibilities in food safety systems. The certified FOSTAC trainer Prem Chand Sharma conducted the session and explained FSSAI rules and regulations. He introduced initiatives including RUCO (Repurpose Used Cooking Oil), BHOG (Blissful Hygienic Offering to God) and food fortification. Associate professor Shikha Saxena coordinated the workshop and spoke about the need to build awareness of food hygiene and quality management. Students concluded the session by expressing interest in contributing to efforts toward safe and nutritious food for people.
