Forest fires raging unabated in Nanda Devi National Park

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Jyotirmath

The seasonal rain and expected volume of snowfall remaining elusive, it is proving tough for the Forest department to douse the forest flames.  The number of such blazes keeps going up too, deepening worry for the foresters.

Fire has once again broken out in the hills and forests at Pulna and Bhyundar in the Govindghatar range of Nanda Devi National Park. In view of this, the Park administration sent a team of departmental employees to the spot. Due to the road being blocked by frost formation, it might take time for the forest personnel to reach and control the fire.

Meanwhile, the hills across the Laxman Ganga, directly opposite Bhyudaar Pulna, have once again caught fire. This area contains trees of multiple species, including Cedar and Burash. A thick plume of smoke has formed in Bhyudaar Pulna following the wildlife fire.

Speaking of the unabated forest fire incidents, the Forest Range officer of the Valley of Flowers, Chetna Kadpal said that a team of foresters had been dispatched to douse the blazes. “But the difficult terrain may delay things. We hope the team will reach soon and put out the flames in the wilds,” she added.
